My Love for Early Morning Flights

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I love early morning flights! Actually, if it’s up to me, I book the earliest possible flight, even if that means taking off before the sun rises!

I’ve always loved morning flights, even when I was little. I think some of this is due to the fact that family vacations almost always included a 6 am flight to Orlando when I was little. I remember plenty of family vacations where my brother and I would wear our pajamas to the airport and on the flight only to swap them out for Disney tee shirts and shorts once we made it to Orlando. I also thought it was pretty cool that we got to have doughnuts at 4am for breakfast!

As I got older my love for early flights continued but for very different reasons. Now, I love early morning flights for a few reasons. Of course arriving at my destination early is major bonus! Take this family vacation to Disney for example. My flight left at 8am and put me in Orlando by 10:00am. Meanwhile, the rest of my family didn’t arrive until the evening. So I basically had an entire extra pool day! I also love early flights because if something happens and my flight is cancelled or delayed there is almost always a later flight I can try and switch to! It makes me feel better about having a plan B. Another thing, I hate waiting. I have a few people in my life (i.e. my mom) who (depending on the airport) will get there an hour before. I don’t think so. My feeling is I’m either waiting on one side of TSA or the other, and I’d much rather be on the side with the planes. Early morning flights, at least in my experience, have better TSA lines. I don’t know if it’s because a lot of frequent flyers take the early flights or if there are just less people or both but it’s much easier for me to navigate TSA first thing in the morning compared to a later flight. Now, I’m a person who likes to work or sleep on the plane too, so flying early in the morning gives me time to catch up on either of these things without having to worry about getting to the airport, etc. In fact, a good number of these posts were written at an airline gate or from my flight.

Overall, I just prefer early morning flights. Maybe I’m weird, but they’re just really my thing! What about you? Do you like early travel or late travel? Also, do you like to get to the airport way early, or way late? Let me know!
