My Lexington Travel Guide

After graduating from the University of Kentucky in May 2020 I decided I wasn't quite ready to leave my college town. Lexington has a special place in my heart and it's been so exciting to explore all of the different businesses and local treasures throughout the city! Here are some of my Lexington favorites!

Restaurants/Bars

Location: Downtown Lexington

This is definitely reserved for special occasions but this is one of my favorite places to celebrate birthdays, big events, etc. Recently, a group of friends and I went to celebrate my friend Taylor's birthday and spent the whole night sharing amazing food and drinks and having the best time!

Location: Distillery District and Downtown Lexington

This is one of the best pizza places I've ever been to and it has one of the coolest bars in town in my opinion. The lunch special here is amazing; a slice of pizza, a side (I always go for the giant breadstick), and a drink for under $8. Situated in the heart of the distillery district and housed in a restored factory/warehouse-type building, Goodfella's the coolest atmosphere. My friends and I love going to grab lunch or dinner and drinks here and sit on the patio!

Location: Downtown Lexington

I'm a sucker for a rooftop and great drinks. This is such a fun spot to visit for a girls' night out or if you're just stopping through town!

Location: E. Main St, Lexington

Magee's Bakery was one of the first places my family and I visited when first arriving in Lexington! It's such a special spot to grab breakfast on the weekends (or really any day)! Between the fresh pastries and the made to order breakfast sandwiches, not to mention the local coffee, there's nothing better!

Location: Downtown Lexington

Carson's is always a fantastic choice, whether you're looking for a spot for a weekend brunch or a nice night out, it's always the perfect spot! From drinks to dessert, Carson's has an amazing menu with a ton of options for everyone to choose from! I love having a night out with my friends or family on the patio!

Coffee Shops

Location: S. Mill St, Lexington

This is by far my favorite coffee shop in all of Lexington! In fact, love it so much I did a whole separate blog post all about it! If you can only stop in one place definitely stop by Old School Coffee!

Events/Attractions

Live Racing at Keeneland

Location: 4201 Versailles Rd, Lexington

There's nothing more quintessential Kentucky than enjoying a beautiful spring or fall day at the historic Keeneland Race Track! Between the excitement of live horse racing and the hustle and bustle of the crowd, a day spent at the track is sure to be a day well spent!

Location: W. Short St, Lexington

I'm a huge theater gal! In fact, one of the first things I did when I moved to Lexington was visit the Lexington Opera House! It hosts Broadway National Tours and some other truly fantastic theatrical performances and is sure to be a fun night out!

Location: Iron Works Parkway, Lexington

Another fun way to explore the equestrian traditions of Lexington is to visit the Kentucky Horse Park! Here you can see horses of all different breeds and backgrounds and there are activities for all ages! Depending on the time of year you visit, the Horse Park also hosts a ton of other fun events for visitors and locals!
