I've talked about my favorite coffee shops in Vermont over and over, but I cannot believe I haven't shared my all time favorite breakfast/lunch spot in the entire state with you all! I'm serious, if you only listen to one of my recommendations - it needs to be this one! Believe me, it's impossible to go to Handy's Lunch and leave without a smile on your face!
Let's start with this little fact. Handy's has been in Burlington since 1945 and, wait for it, has been run by 3 generations of the same family. If that doesn't scream Vermont, I don't know what does. To this day one of my favorite aspects of living in Vermont is all of the family run businesses in the state. There's something so special about local, family run businesses - I swear, the just feel different. Anyways, I'll get back to the millions of reasons I love Handy's.
I'm not sure if I've shared this with you all, but I love diners. More specifically, I love diner food; and Handy's has it all. Whether you're a traditional breakfast kind of person, or you're craving a sub or hot sandwich, even if you want a massive breakfast sandwich to get your day started there are plenty of options!
For as much as I love the food, the main reasons I love Handy's are the people and the atmosphere. When you go, you really feel like you're visiting a friend's house. Earl and his incredible staff make it a point to get to know everyone who stops in. If you stop by Handy's a few days in a row you'll notice a bunch of the same people in there every day. Honestly, you're likely to see me at any point when you come in. Between Earl's welcoming attitude and the horseshoe counter that makes conversations with strangers so easy you're sure to fall in love with this local spot.
I could go on and on about how much I love Handy's but the bottom line is the food, the people and the place are incredible and that's really all you need to know! So next time you're in Burlington, make sure to stop by Handy's Lunch and tell them Brooke sent you! I promise you won't be disappointed!
